FAQ

Below you will find our Frequently Asked Questions. If you have any questions that were not answered here, or you would like some more information please Contact Us.

I know Waste Diversion is the right thing to do, but won’t it end up costing my business more?

In order to ensure that we are implementing sustainable programs and systems for our clients, it is imperative that they are cost-effective. When we use the word sustainable, we mean it in an environmental context as well as a financial one. We manage a large portfolio across the country, and through our expertise, we ensure that our clients not only do the right thing, but save money while doing it.

On top of our expertise in contract negotiation, our clients also save money by increasing their recycling program compliance and participation rates. A great way to look at this is by visualizing one cubic yard of material being categorized as garbage and going to landfill. On average, this will cost your business $10.00 in Canada. However, one cubic yard of recyclable material being diverted from landfill will only cost $2.00.

How do I know if I am in compliance with regulations in my area? What do I do if I am not?

Regulations are constantly being updated in municipalities across Canada, and it can be overwhelming for businesses to ensure they are keeping up with the correct standards. MASS works closely with municipalities and service providers across Canada, and ensures that our customers are always in compliance. This means that if there one of our service provider’s notes a violation of a regulation on any given load, the MASS client is protected by our high standards of liability mitigation.

If you are curious about regulations in your area, get in touch with MASS. Many of our clients have on-site programs that put them ahead of the curve so that they are prepared for future changes that may occur.

What makes MASS different than my current service provider?

MASS Environmental Services Inc. is the Canadian leader in waste diversion expertise. We are not a waste hauler, we are a consulting company. This means what we negotiate and oversee your contracts, manage your service, and become your single point of accountability. Through strategic partnerships, our clients not only receive the best price available from the contracted service providers, they also receive the best service available as well.

MASS is not a waste hauler, and we are also not a broker. This means that while we negotiate, manage and oversee your contract, you still pay your own monthly invoice. Our Customer Service team audits every monthly invoice to eliminate hidden surcharges or unauthorized fees, eliminating invoicing errors. We then send the invoice to your location for payment.

In addition to all of this, we provide cutting-edge technology that leads the industry in reducing the volume of your waste. We are constantly looking for the next step towards decreasing the amount of material you are sending to landfill, and finding the most cost-effective ways to do this.

MASS acts the ultimate shield against unnecessary costs, poor service, and other issues that may arise with a typical waste service provider.

What kind of cost savings can I expect?

MASS customers save an average of 30% on their waste disposal costs from the previous year. It is important to note that this savings amount takes the MASS fee into account. Our cost is always justified.

Waste Diversion is great, but I can’t seem to get my staff on board. What do you suggest?

MASS is built upon three pillars of success: Cost Control, Compliance, and Education. The third is arguably the most important, because without staff education, it is irrelevant how wonderful the waste diversion programs at your location are. MASS has developed educational videos and materials to engage staff. We provide on-site seminars to our clients in order to educate staff, and are focused on consistently improving their understanding and motivation to participate in the waste diversion programs available to them. We design easy-to-use systems and implement industry leading technologies. By building a waste diversion system based upon these principles, we ensure that staff understand what to do, but also why they are doing it.

I manage several locations across Canada. Can you help?

MASS services clients from coast to coast. Our team is experienced in every province and has the capability to manage programs for as many locations as you require.

What Waste Diversion tools do you offer?

Our industry leading expertise will lend itself to designing and implementing exceptional waste diversion programs at your location including recycling, organics programs, re-use programs and more. In addition to this, we distribute industry leading technology such as the Food Cycler, the Rocket, and the Waste Station that will help you to drastically improve your waste diversion rate in a cost-effective manner. We also distribute a number of products including the MACC, the MASS Alternative Compostable Wipe, which is an exceptional replacement option for peri-cloths for multi-generational use.

What is a Waste Audit?

A Waste Audit is your road-map towards waste diversion success. A Waste Audit is a sample of the material generated at your location, measured, weighted, quantified and categorized in meticulous detail. Our team is respected industry wide for our leading Waste Audit strategies. The Waste Audit report will provide a detailed breakdown of what material your location is producing, what areas of your location are struggling with what types of materials, where there is opportunity for improvement, and so much more.

Can I achieve the same level of Waste Diversion success on my own?

MASS Environmental Services Inc. brings industry leading expertise that allows for the lowest cost and highest level of service possible. Our clients are able to increase their waste diversion and achieve substantial cost savings. Meanwhile, our clients will see their service significantly improve. We become your single point of contact, which means that no matter the time of day or day of week, we are available to service you. We deal with all missed or delayed services, questions about programs and more.
