GEORGE BROWN President
George Brown has served as President of MASS Environmental Services Inc. since founding the company alongside his wife, Marnie in 2001.
In this role, George acts as director of partnerships, technology, and business development for MASS while providing strategic leadership to the company. George’s leadership has been a crucial driving force of MASS’ growth and success since the company’s inception. Prior to founding MASS, George held numerous senior management roles in the automotive parts supply industry where he applied his systematic leadership expertise.
George holds an interdepartmental degree in Business Administration and Psychology from Brock University. George strongly believes in supporting communities and families, and has been involved in numerous initiatives over the years including coaching youth sports, backing community activities, and supporting the most recent Habitat for Humanity Build in Lakefield, Ontario.
George is known for his meticulous and unwavering work-ethic and inspires professionalism amongst his team. Well respected amongst his colleagues, George inspires an attitude of integrity and commitment amongst the entire MASS team. A dedicated family man, George is proud to have his son, Mac and daughter, Alex as a part of the MASS team, and through his standards for exceptional work, he leads MASS with an unparalleled spirit of innovativeness and authenticity.
MARNIE BROWN Vice-President
Marnie Brown has served as Vice-President for MASS Environmental Services Inc. since founding the company with her husband George in 2001.
Over the past 15 years, Marnie has led the development of a strong and uniquely skilled team.
Marnie is well renowned as a leader who inspires engagement and collaboration. Her passion for providing an unparalleled experience to MASS’ clients has been the foundation for MASS’ industry leading customer service.
Marnie possesses a Medical Diagnostic Imaging Radiology Diploma from the Michener Institute of Technology, and worked in the hospital setting for 20 years prior to founding MASS. This experience contributed to her focus on infection control which has made her a tremendous asset to MASS’ growth in the Long Term Care and Retirement industry.
With MASS’ emphasis on investment in our future, Marnie’s family focus is outstanding. Marnie and George are parents to two children – Mac and Alex, who have both joined the company. Their unwavering family values are a part of what distinctively characterizes their leadership style – one that is built upon trust, transparency and loyalty. Every day, Marnie guides her team and customers to make a difference. With the mantra of “Change begins with just one step,” as one of her guiding principles, Marnie’s tremendous work-ethic is a guiding force behind MASS’ success.
ALEX CARD Operations Manager
A Certified Zero Waste TRUE Advisor, Alex Card is respected amongst her colleagues for her unparalleled drive and work ethic, which has led to her immense success with MASS Environmental Services Inc.
Alex attended Memorial University of Newfoundland where she earned a degree in International Business Administration as just one of eight members in her class to earn this degree. Alex also lived in France for 6 months where she studied at Grenoble École de Management.
Alex’s passion for travel has contributed to her immense adaptability and innovativeness, making her an asset to the Customer Service Department of MASS Environmental Services Inc. In addition to this role, Alex serves as a key figure within the business development sector of the company, overseeing hazardous waste, grease traps, used cooking oil services and more.
She began working with the company in the summers while still a student, travelling across the country completing waste audits. This experience allowed Alex to develop an exceptionally valuable expertise in waste diversion that she applies to her work with clients on a daily basis.
Whether Alex is exploring a foreign country, or working closely with her team in the MASS office, she is quick-on-her-feet, inventive, and inspires an attitude of optimism amongst those around her.
Alex is passionate about community building, and has volunteered with a number of local causes. She is an advocate for health and fitness, and is a crucial part of the award winning MASS Environmental Services Inc. team.
Carrying on with the sense of family focus that underlies much of MASS’ success, Alex married her husband Nate Card in July 2018. Alex and Nate look forward to a lifetime of adventure together, and believe in working to protect our environment in every way we can, in order to leave a thriving earth for the next generation.
MAC BROWN Business Development and Waste Audit Manager
A Certified Zero Waste TRUE Advisor, Mac Brown is well-known for his entrepreneurial attitude and spirited nature. Mac has also earned his Recycling Council of Ontario Waste Audit Certificate, giving him the capability to work with locations to become 3R Certified.
Respected amongst his peers for the constructive and innovative nature he brings to the table, Mac inspires an exciting and positive energy amongst his team.
Mac began working with MASS in the summers throughout his time as a student, travelling across the country and participating in waste audits, in order to guide clients to waste diversion success. Upon completion of his degree, he joined the company full-time, where he is now a guiding force in Business Development and also spearheads the Waste Audit Division.
Mac studied at Mount Allison University, where he earned a Bachelor of Commerce Degree, while playing on the men’s varsity basketball team. During this time, he founded a professional sports agency representing professional athletes playing in North American and overseas. Mac sold this agency in 2015, and continues to explore his entrepreneurial initiatives in a variety of ways. In the past several years, Mac has developed a passion in real estate investment, with a strong focus on residential properties throughout the Province of Ontario. Mac looks forward to pursuing this interest with a future focus on sustainable living as we continue to move forward into the future.
Mac’s entrepreneurial spirit is exemplified most notably through his role in business development with MASS. This role has allowed Mac to maximize his strengths as a true “people-person,” bringing the wonderful economic benefits of environmental sustainability to fruition for businesses across Canada.
Mac is a “go-getter” with an exceptional work-ethic and unstoppable will-power. Working alongside his family and the rest of the MASS team, Mac shows initiative and dedication on a daily basis. Mac married his wife Heather, who is our Special Projects Manager in May 2019, and together they look forward to working together toward a more sustainable future in their common mission with MASS.
HEATHER BROWN Special Projects Manager
Heather Brown joined the MASS Environmental Services Inc. team in spring of 2014, and has grown with us since then into her current role as Special Projects Coordinator. Originally serving in our Customer Service department for over two years, Heather had the opportunity to develop an in-depth and thorough understanding of our clients daily operations from coast-to-coast, overseeing the waste diversion programs at over 1000 locations under the supervision of our leadership team. This expertise had led to her success in her current role, and in this position she has the opportunity to combine her in-depth knowledge of the MASS Environmental systems with her own sense of creativity in order to manage all communications operations within the organization.
Originally from Moncton, New Brunswick, Heather attended Mount Allison University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, History and Sociology. Her academic background has contributed to her life-long passion for the written word, and she has been featured in numerous publications including TIME, xoJane, and Hellion Magazine. She applies her capabilities as a writer and a communicator on a daily basis with MASS, spearheading our digital media presence including social media, client communication, newsletters, marketing material and more.
Heather also is able to apply her passion for teaching and engaging with others by developing training material for internal staff, working closely with our IT team on development of client education modules, and spearheading our co-operative education program with local high schools and colleges.
Heather is known for inspiring collaboration and cooperation amongst her colleagues, and is thrilled to be a part of a company that makes a positive difference every day. Heather married her husband Mac, who is our Waste Audit Manager in May 2019. Together, they look forward to leading their teams with the company values that have been the foundation of MASS and their family since the very beginning.
JESSE MORING Administrative Manager
Jesse Moring joined the MASS Environmental Services Inc. team in the fall of 2017 in the position of Administration Manager. In this role, Jesse oversees our finance, information technology, and human resources departments as an invaluable member of our management team. With a meticulous eye for detail, Jesse brings an exceptional skillset to the team, as we work towards continuous growth and development.
In 2010, Jesse graduated from the Business Accounting program at Durham College, and holds his PCP designation with the Canadian Payroll Association. Committed to continuing education, Jesse pursues every opportunity for ongoing learning, and he plans to complete his CPM within the next year. Most recently, Jesse has worked with a software development company, overseeing payroll and benefits, and has completed staff accounting duties in a variety of roles. This diverse background has contributed to the development of his ability to handle any task that comes his way.
As he joins the MASS team, we are thrilled to recognize that Jesse shares our sense of family focus. In 2010, Jesse and his wife, Laurel, were married in Vegas by ‘Elvis.’ In 2015, they relocated from Durham region to Cobourg where they currently find themselves as-busy-as-can-be balancing home renovations with finding ways to entertain their three energetic sons: Oliver, Reid, and Sawyer. When they find the rare moment of spare time, Jesse and his wife enjoy taking in live music. As a family, they enjoy camping, hiking, and taking advantage of greenspaces that Mother Nature has to offer, contributing to Jesse’s passion for waste diversion and protecting our environment.
Jesse shares our commitment to community focus, and along with his wife has taken part in many charity events and is currently working on the development of a volunteer group that helps obtain swabs for the bone marrow registry at concerts.
ERIK VARNER Waste Audit Supervisor
In 2018, Erik earned his Recycling Council of Ontario Waste Audit Certificate, giving him the capability to work with locations to become 3R Certified. An asset to the Waste Audit Team, Erik’s role with MASS has evolved since joining our team in 2017. Having joined MASS with a strong technical background in facilities and property management, he began his journey with MASS by providing support in our Customer Service Department, before transition full-time into our Audit Division fulfilling physical and technical responsibilities in wide-ranging capacities.
Starting out as a Waste Audit Technician, Erik quickly developed a strong understanding of waste auditing, and used his own technical background to develop systems to enhance our service offerings and increase our ability to provide industry-leading data to each of our nation-wide clients.
Respected for his level-headed attitude and drive to succeed, Erik is motivated by his passion for investment in the future. Committed to being a leader in sustainable action, Erik is a strong proponent of the MASS mantra, “Change Begins with Just One Step,” and carries this out in his daily life through intentional positive actions on a regular basis.
His passion for sustainability is most notably seen through his love of nature. Erik loves to fish, and as an East Coast native, has spent endless hours on the Atlantic Ocean over the years. Besides fishing, his hobbies include hiking and camping, and he looks forward to exploring the many trails and hiking paths that Northumberland County has to offer. Erik is thrilled to be a part of a team that combines environmental sustainability with cost-savings strategies, as this aligns perfectly with his own personal set of passions and beliefs.
Erik re-located to Cobourg in 2017 when he joined the MASS team, and has since immersed himself in the community of Northumberland County. With a love for athletics, Erik spent many of his younger years playing soccer and hockey, and now enjoys making the most of time on the golf course throughout the summer months.
Erik is grateful to be a part of the growing MASS team and looks forward to developing further with the company into the future.
Cian Creed-Healy Customer Service Supervisor
Cian Creed-Healy joins the MASS Team in 2019 in the role of Customer Service Supervisor. As we happily welcome him into the “MASS Family” we are eager for him to utilize his leadership experience to maintain our commitment to industry-leading excellence in customer service.
Cian brings an international presence to our team, hailing from the South Coast of Ireland. Born and raised in Cork City, his first move ever was to Canada just a couple of years ago. In true Irish culture, he grew up surrounded by extended family, amplifying the role of those important relationships in his life. This sense of family focus makes Cian a perfect fit for the MASS team, as we continue to grow while maintaining this as the backbone of our company culture.
Cian’s professional background involves an array of valuable experience, reflecting his passion for people and technology. He’s worked in the entertainment software industry where he managed a large customer service team while developing a highly relevant skill set in tracking, measuring, and monitoring the success and performance of customer service systems. As his role develops with MASS, we look forward to his application of this background to enhance what we do.
Cian came to Canada to join his fiancée, Julie, who he met while she was vacationing in Ireland. After a year of long-distance, he made the commitment to join her here in the Great White North, where he is now excitedly exploring his new ‘home away from home.’ Since coming to Canada, he’s fallen in love with the National and Provincial Parks, most particularly Algonquin where he was lucky enough to see his first moose! He enjoys camping and enjoying the connection with the earth that can only truly come from spending time in nature.
Having been born in one of the most beautiful and nature-rich countries in the world, a desire to protect our environment and promote sustainability comes naturally to him. As a child, he spent his summers playing on the beaches and hiking the hills of Ireland. He hopes that as we work together to achieve future goals of sustainability, we can protect this planet so that future generations can continue to enjoy Mother Nature in the same way.
Alexsandra Handerer Customer Service Coordinator
Alexsandra Handerer joined the MASS Team in 2018 in the role of Customer Service Coordinator, a position through which she is quickly becoming a crucial asset to our team in providing our clients with industry leading service on a daily basis. Her background includes working in both accounts receivable and reception positions, which has contributed to her unparalleled attention to detail – a skill which has proven invaluable in maintaining an excellent standard of service for our clients from coast-to-coast.
Before entering the work force, Alexsandra attended the Technical Theatre Program at Humber College where she explored both her creative and practical side, learning skills in construction, painting, and sewing. This passion for the arts stays with her today and contributes to her passion for the visual beauty of our earth. One of her major goals is to create and follow a travel map to explore the wondrous beauty across Canada and the United States. In doing this, she hopes to further ignite her appreciation for the wonders our earth.
An advocate for protecting Mother Nature, Alexsandra is well known amongst her family and friends for reminding them of their environmental impact and the benefits of correct recycling.
With a deep love and respect for her family being one of the most profound elements of Alexsandra’s life, she spends most of her free time with them, completing home renovation projects together and travelling on exciting adventures. Joining a team who shares this commitment to putting family first is a serendipitous alignment of values for both Alexsandra and MASS.
In addition to her work for MASS, Alex also boasts a creative side. She is a true artist and if you visit our office in Cobourg, you will even see some of her work. In 2019 she completed a Wall Mural in our Education Centre, encompassing the values, mission, and culture of MASS. We are grateful to have her explore her multi-faceted talents as a valued member of our team.
Since joining our team, Alexsandra has had the opportunity to work closely with our customers, securing their confidence in her capability to resolve any issues that may arise for them, and exhibiting her positive and ambitious attitude. Her fastidious attention to detail and organization has made her an asset to our team, and MASS is thrilled to have her with us as we look forward to the future.
Katie Noyes Customer Service Coordinator
Katie Noyes first joined the MASS team as a high school student during her graduating year at Lakefield District Secondary School. Her role with our team began as a co-op position in which she was earning school credit, and quickly evolved into a part-time job providing support to our customer service and administrative team. The entire MASS family was impressed with her work-ethic and grounded determination for success, and by the end of her school year, we were excited to welcome her to the team in a full-time capacity for a summer job.
At the end of that summer, Katie went off to Fanshawe College in London, Ontario where she completed the Executive Office Administration program. In this program, Katie further developed her skills as an administrative professional, and when she was required to complete a co-op placement term for this program, MASS was happy to bring her back to the team. Upon completion of her studies in 2018, Katie has now come back to MASS in the full-time, permanent position of Customer Service Coordinator.
In the role of Customer Service Coordinator, Katie provides support to our nationwide client base, managing the day-to-day needs of each site with regards to their waste diversion programs. Katie is committed to doing the right thing, and ensuring our clients see controlled costs while simultaneously reducing their environmental impact. Katie also provides additional support to our Administrative Department, and also works closely with our executive and management team.
Throughout the years, as Katie has grown and developed with MASS, she truly has become a part of the “MASS Family” in every sense of the word. Our team has been impressed and proud to watch her enhance her skills from her early days with us as a high school student, to her current achievements post-college and in her professional life.
Katie’s story with MASS is a testament to the value of co-operative education programs, but more importantly, is an excellent example of the value of a strong work-ethic, reliability, and accountability. These are the values that Katie exhibits on a daily basis, and are also the values upon which the success of MASS has been built. We are thrilled to have Katie with the MASS team and look forward to her ongoing success within the company.
Juliette Deal has been an active participant in waste mitigation, resource diversion and educational programming in the South Eastern USA and Caribbean for the past ten years. She is the new part-time Sustainability Officer for MASS Environmental and is currently completing her Master’s Degree in Environmental Studies specializing in Integrated Solid Waste Management solutions. She is also the co-founder and director of a GEF United Nations Zero Waste Program on Hope Town, Bahamas where she from and the Local Food Action Committee Chair for Sustainable Cobourg here in Ontario.
Prior to starting her Master’s degree, Juliette worked as the South East Regional Manager for World Centric (a compostable food service packaging manufacturer). She spent time both professionally and personally hosting environmental talks about the importance of composting, recycling and the use of reusables. As a Regional Manager, she was responsible for developing and implementing a strategic regional plan to expand business in the South Eastern USA & the Caribbean. This was achieved through high level meetings with end users such as Universities, Hospitals, Quick Service Restaurants, Theme parks and National Distributors.
Previous to working for World Centric, Juliette had her own compostable food service Distribution company for four years in the Bahamas. Juliette is originally from a Canadian maternal family and paternal Bahamian family. During her time running her own company, Juliette worked with both political parties and the local non-governmental organizations in The Bahamas to develop a new taxation classification for compostable food service containers in order to reduce the cost of their importation across the board. Community based environmental educational talks were an integral part of the movement.
Most spring, summer and fall Sundays you will find Juliette at the local farmers market, volunteering at a community event or exploring the great outdoors. She is deeply rooted in both her relationships with her family and friends around the world and the communities she has been a part of. She is excited to be part of the MASS family and a new home owner and resident of Cobourg, and a part of the MASS Family!
Gavin McGuire joins the MASS Waste Audit Team in 2019, bringing with him a highly developed background in environmental protection, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Studies from Bishop’s University, and an Environmental Planning Diploma from Fleming College. In addition to his exceptional academic background, Gavin has committed his professional pursuits to conservation of our planet, most recently in his work with Sustainable Cobourg, as their Communications & Environmental Outreach Intern.
Gavin’s passion for environmental protection began early in his life and continues to be a motivating factor in how he lives his life today. He believes that that environment is something that is worth standing up for, and he is proud to be a voice for the planet in an era when the impact of humans on nature is being so profoundly felt. He looks forward to a future where Canadian companies are committed to designing products from ‘cradle-to-cradle,’ meaning they are designed to be reusable or recyclable after their useful life.
Gavin makes a conscious effort to take time and appreciate our planet in his daily life. The outdoors is where he goes to relax and unwind, and he is a strong proponent of the belief that spending time in nature, away from the hustle of life is the best kind of medicine. In fact, throughout university, Gavin was able to share his love for the outdoors with kids from all over the world as he spent his summers working at a summer camp in Muskoka.
Becoming a part of a family business like MASS is an excellent fit for Gavin, who shares our same sense of family focus. Some of Gavin’s best memories are shared with his family, including getting everyone together for a summer BBQ, or even sitting around the table to play board games.
When he is not in the office or on the road with the audit team, Gavin can be found rooting for the Toronto Maple Leafs, reading up on the latest in clean technology, or hitting the slopes on his snowboard.

Cassandra Wallace Administrative Coordinator
Cassandra Wallace joins the MASS Environmental Services Inc. team in the role of Administrative Coordinator. In this role, Cassandra provides support to both our Customer Service and Administration Departments, working alongside other members of the MASS team to provide industry-leading service to our clients with an ongoing commitment to cost control through waste diversion. In this role, Cassandra looks forward to utilizing the skills developed through her Advanced Accounting Diploma in Business Administration, and through her past experience in both customer service and bookkeeping.
Becoming a part of a family business is an excellent fit for Cassandra. As a mother to three daughters, Brianna, Kayla, and Victoria, she admires the commitment to working together as a family towards a greater purpose of protecting the environment. This is a sense of purpose that Cassandra shares, with a passion for spending time on our beaches and camping outdoors, she deeply respects our land and what is has to offer. Cassandra makes a daily effort to contribute to leaving behind a healthy and thriving earth, and tries to instill this in her children as well.
Cassandra is also an advocate for a strong sense of community and culture within the workplace. As a believer that community means an extension of family, Cassandra brings an attitude of positivity to the office to impact her teammates in an exceptional way. Her kindness and sense of humour are coupled by her reputation for reliability and self-sufficiency to make her a truly valuable asset to the company culture here at MASS.
When she is not in the office, Cassandra enjoys spending her time with family and friends, going to the cottage and camping, swimming, curling up with a good book, and spending time with her daughters, exploring everything that life has to offer.
